Upgrading PageSentry	Previous | Next Contents

Important! - Before making any attempts to upgrade your existing version of PageSentry, we suggest that you make a duplicate of the PageSentry Preferences file (located in the Preferences folder, which is inside the System Folder). PageSentry 2.5 will read and update the old Preferences file for use with PageSentry 2.5. However, should you need to revert to 2.0 or 2.1, you will need the backup Preferences file.

On your original PageSentry disk, a "key file" is included that makes it easy to upgrade to future versions. To upgrade PageSentry, download the current demo version from the Maxum Web site (http://www.maxum.com/) and install the package. Next, drag your key file onto the application icon. The PageSentry demo version will launch, read the key, validate itself, and notify you that validation has been completed.

Note: PageSentry 2.5 requires PageSentry or PageSentry Pro keys with a keycode of series "09" or greater. Keys with a keycode beginning "PS-08-" or less will not work.

In addition to validating by dragging your key file, PageSentry will also recognize the key if it resides in the same folder as the PageSentry application. Simply placing the key file in the same folder will cause PageSentry to run indefinitely, even when you download new versions.

Please note that in order to permanently validate PageSentry, you must drag the key onto the application. If you validate by simply leaving the key file in the PageSentry folder, then removing the key or moving PageSentry to another machine will cause PageSentry to revert to its demonstration state. Only by dragging the key onto the application will PageSentry be permanently enabled.

Also, note that PageSentry keys will not validate the PageSentry Pro download package, so be sure to download the appropriate version from the Maxum Web site. In addition, note that a PageSentry Pro key will not turn a Standard PageSentry application into the Pro version. Pro keys will validate the standard PageSentry application, but to define more than 10 Sentries and 10 Notifiers, you must download the PageSentry Pro demo application from the Maxum Web site and validate it. PageSentry Pro and Standard read the same preference files, and replacing the Standard application with Pro can be done without any re-configuration.
